Centre For Development Studies MA Admission 2023

Centre for Development Studies offers MA in Applied Economics to Indian and SAARC countries’ candidates.

For Indian candidates, eligibility for admission is bachelor’s degree in any discipline (10+2+3 pattern) with at least 50% of marks. Admission of Indian students is based on an entrance test.

Students from SAARC countries must have a bachelor’s degree with English as the medium of instruction and the three-year UG program must be equivalent to an UG program of an Indian university. Candidates from SAARC countries are selected on the basis of academic qualification and interview through Skype.

Key Points for Admission:

  • Minimum marks to be obtained in the written test in order to be eligible for selection: General Category – 40% OBC (NCL) - 36% and SC/ST/PWD - 25%.
  • The Institute has twenty seats for students from India and five seats are for students from SAARC countries.
  • Candidates from SC, ST and Persons with Disability (PwD) (≥40%disability) are eligible for admission irrespective of percentage of marks secured in the qualifying degree.

Centre for Development Studies Integrated M.Phil./ Ph.D. and Ph.D. Admission 2023

CDS offers Integrated M.Phil.-Ph.D. course in Applied Economics and Ph.D. in Economics. After completing the Academic requirements of M.Phil. course work, the students may be given provisional admission to Ph.D.

Candidates for admission to M.Phil. should have a master's degree or equivalent with at least 55% marks in aggregate.

M.Phil. graduates with Final Grade Point Average of at least 6 are eligible for admission to Ph.D. Additionally, candidates who have a master’s Degree and at least two-year of research experience in a university/ research institution and research publications in refereed academic journals can also apply. Selection is based on an entrance test and interview.

  • No marks criteria for SC/ST/ PWD candidates for Ph.D. admission.

Applicants need to follow the subsequent steps to submit the application form offline:

  • Visit the official site and download the application form and hall ticket.
  • Fill the form and hall ticket.
  • Make a DD of INR 300 as application fees. DD drawn from State Bank of India (SBI) in favor of the Centre for Development Studies, payable at Trivandrum. SC, ST and PWD applicants are exempted from payment of the application fee.
  • Duly filled application form along with self attested copies of the documents should be sent to:

  • OBC (non-creamy layer) certificate.

Centre for Development Studies Scholarship 

Scholarship for students from SAARC Countries

  • With the funding from Kerala government, CDS provides five scholarships to students from SAARC countries for MA program.
  •  Five scholarships are available and will be given to one student from each of the five SAARC countries Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
  • Monthly scholarship of INR 15,000 will be provided to each SAARC student.
