I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU) was established in 1997. IKGPTU has campuses in Amritsar, Batala, Bhikhiwind, Dinanagar, Hoshiarpur, Khunnimajra, Mohali and the main campus in Kapurthala, Jalandhar.
I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU) offers B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc., M.A. MBA, M.Arch and postgraduate diploma course at their main campus. Undergraduate courses are allocated an intake of 45 students in each specialization, whereas M.Tech and M.Sc. courses take in 25 students in each specialization. The MBA intake is of 60 students and M.Arch at 25 for this academic year.

- Eligibility for undergraduate courses is completion of 10+2 with subjects relevant to the degree specialization as optional subjects
- Postgraduate courses require an undergraduate degree in a relevant field
- Selection Process: Selection is done on the basis of scores in JEE Main, GATE, CMAT and on the basis of merit in qualifying examination.
- Reservation: As per government rules, IKGPTU also has reservations for students from Punjab at 85%. Therefore, the intake from other states is only 15%.

M.Tech admission is done on the basis of merit in GATE results. Candidates must have a B.E. / B. Tech undergraduate degree in the relevant field from a recognized institution.

The application process is online, all eligible students can apply for the courses by visiting the official website of the university. The counseling fee of Rs.2000/- has to be paid first in cash to the designated bank. Students can then register online and attend the counseling later.
