The School of Distance Education is one of the major departments of the University of Calicut. It was established in the year 1981 and has emerged as major distance education providers. The institution is affiliated to University Grants Commission of India. It caters to the needs of thousands of students from various parts of the world.
It offers a total number of 26 programs, out of which 14 consists of Undergraduate courses and 12 Postgraduate courses. The institution is putting all efforts to reach every student in the country. Admission to the courses are based upon the marks secured in the qualifying examination.

Students seeking admission in the institute can download the application form from the official website of Calicut University. The prospectus and details regarding the application fee can be found on the website. Fill the application form and send the same to Director, School of Distance Education with the following documents.
Following are the step-wise procedure to submit an online application form for Calicut University Distance Education:
Step 1: Visit the official website of the School of Distance Education.
Step 2: Go to Online Registration and select the appropriate link.
Step 3: Sign up with your details like Aadhaar Number, E-mail ID, Mobile Number. After successful registration, sign in using your Mobile Number.
Step 4: Select the course and fill in your personal details. You cannot modify the course once selected but personal details can be modified until you make the final submission.
Step 5: After the successful completion of details, upload your photograph in JPEG format and upload the documents in PDF format and click ‘Submit’ button.
Step 6: You will now be redirected to the payment page where the details will be displayed.
Step 7: Take a print out of the application form after successful submission.
Step 8: Print out of the application must be sent to Director, School of Distance Education, University of Calicut, Calicut University P.O., Malappuram-673635.
Admission is granted only on fulfillment of eligibility conditions regarding basic qualifications and submission of documents as mentioned above. Applications without the required documents will be rejected and will not be accepted after the last date.
Calicut University Distance Education Study material is prepared by the teachers and experts in relevant disciplines. Study material will be distributed to the students through the contact class centres. The copies of study material of each course are also made available on the website of School of Distance Education. However, study material will not be provided in printed form if the total student enrollment of a program is less than 50.

The university follows semester course system and is divided into 2 categories. Both semester examination result is published on the official website. Click on the Examination Results tab and enter registration number. Click on submit button afterwards and the result will be displayed on the screen. Students can download the result for future references.
The university releases hall ticket of the registered students for semester-end examinations. Students can visit the official website to download the same. Enter the registration number and date of birth of individual students to download the hall ticket.
