Seth Anandram Jaipuria College is a liberal arts college Established in 1945 in Kolkata. Affiliated to the Calcutta University, the college offers courses in streams of Arts, Commerce and Science. The College runs in three shifts wherein the Day shift is for co-ed, morning Shift is exclusively meant for girls and the Evening Shift is for boys. The College has also introduced various new subjects including Electronics, Computer Science, Journalism and Mass Communication Food & Nutrition & Psychology etc. in the recent years.
The college offers various courses in Arts and Commerce streams including B.Com honours as well as Bachelor of Arts in Bengali, Hindi, English, History, Education, Philosophy, Political Science, Phycology and Food & Nutrition. B.A is a three years’ course wherein students can opt for any of the subjects in humanities and social science streams.
Students seeking admission to SAJ College can apply for the same by filling in the admission form. A recent photograph needs to be attached with the filled admission form along with the copies of HSC mark sheet for verification to the office staff. The College does not conduct any entrance examination and selection of the candidates is done only on merit basis.
The college considers marks obtained in top four subjects in the immediately preceding qualifying examination to determine the aggregate marks of a candidate passing the examination under grade system. For candidates passing the higher secondary (10+2) examination from West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education under Old System, marks in top five subjects shall be considered to ascertain in their aggregate marks.
SAJ College offers reservation for S.C, S.T, OBC-A and OBC-B candidates in each subject as per university and government rules/regulations. 22% seats are reserved for SC candidates, ST candidates are given 6% seats, 3% of total seats are reserved for PC and OBC-A and OBC B have 10% and 7% seats reserved for them respectively. It should be noted that SC/ST candidates from states outside West Bengal are not entitled to any reservations, and the college treats them as candidates of general category.
Additionally, all candidates seeking admission in the SAJ college are required to score passing marks in English. Admission to Honours and General courses will be subject to Calcutta University regulations of Calcutta University. Students seeking admission in Chemistry (Hons.) have to score Pass marks in Physics as well.
Vocational Stream Students are allowed to apply for BA/B.Com General courses only. The college announces merit list for vocational stream separately for a few earmarked seats. Girls taking admission in Morning shift will be given B.A. General - Elective English as General Subject. In this case, they are required to have 50% in English at 10+2 level.
