    About Wildlife Institute of India

    Wildlife Institute of India (WII) was established in 1982 in Dehradun under the Government of India and Ministry of Climate change, Forest and Environment. For the training of students who are learning about wildlife, there are a total 300 birds, 20 reptiles, 15 mammals, 17 spiders, 650 plants and species.

    College provide courses i.e. M.Sc, 1 week certification course, 6 months certification courses, etc. The college offers 10 courses and the popular courses are M.Sc., PGDM, Certifications and Diploma courses. Indian students as well as foreign students can take admission in this college. 

    For the admission in M.Sc. course, students have to appear for NET entrance exam. For other certification and Diploma courses admissions are based on Merit List. For the Diploma and Certificate courses, Foreign Government and State forest departments send their best candidates who have experience in this field for the admission. 

    Students get internships which is the most important thing in the course. Talking about the placements, students get the chance for the placements also.

    Wildlife Institute of India Courses

    Course Details
    M.Sc Duration: 2 years
    Specialization: Wildlife Sciences, Heritage Conservation and Management
    Eligibility: Minimum 55% marks in graduation from any recognized university The maximum age limit is 25 years as on July 01, 2019 with relaxation of 5 years for reserved category national candidates (SC/ST/OBC) and 3 years for foreign candidates. For the in-service candidates and professionals, the age limit is 35 years as on July 01, 2019.
    PG Diploma  Duration: 10 months
    Specialization: Advanced wildlife management
    Eligibility: DCF/ACF or any other officer working in national parks, wildlife, sanctuaries, universities and foreign nationals including SAARC countries 
    Certificate Duration: 1 week to 6 months
    Specialization: Wildlife management
    Eligibility: Service officer in deputy officer or range officer with minimum 12 standard pass

    M.Sc.- Admission to the above-mentioned courses, the candidates will have to sit for NET exam. Shortlisted candidates will be called for Personality Aptitude Test and Interview.

    PG Diploma- Selection is on the basis of a recommendation by State Forest Departments of officers of the rank of DCF/ACF who meet the eligibility criteria.

    Certificate- Admission will be based on first come– first serve basis.

    Wildlife Institute of India Placements 

    Internship opportunities are given to students, who can intern under wildlife forest, sanctuaries. For M.Sc. students: those students will get the placement as a wildlife officer post and other posts, 50% of students get placements. 

    For PG and certificate courses candidates: those candidates will upgrade their post by doing these courses.

    Wildlife Institute of India Scholarship 

    Reflecting class-room learning in a real-life working environment, the students would get an opportunity to research in their field of interest through Master Degree dissertation and Internship in fourth and fifth terms respectively.

    • For M.Sc. course, the best 8 students will get a scholarship facility. Those students who have excelled in Merit List can get scholarships by the college. In the first year of college, students will get scholarships. 
    • There is no scholarship facility for PG and certificate courses.

    • Library: In college campus, there is a library where students can read and learn. There are various types of books, related to the course and other helpful books. 
    • Hostel: Hostel facility is given by the college to its students.
    • Sports facility: Students can enjoy their free time in the sports complex. There are 3 different types of courts i.e. Badminton, basketball, tennis court. 

    FAQ’s

    Ques. How does the examination for M.Sc. takes place?

    Ans. Evaluation of the theory papers will be both external and internal in the ratio of 70:30 respectively. The theory paper examination for 70 marks will be conducted by the Saurashtra University at the end of each semester. The internal examination for 30 marks will be conducted by the respective paper coordinator(s). Further, each of the first three semester examinations will be administered by a designated Internal Examiner and external examiners for Lab/Field Practicals. The fourth semester examination will be evaluation of the dissertation by external examiners including dissertation presentation and viva-voce.

    Ans. Courses related to wildlife are offered by the college. Courses like M.Sc., PG Diploma, and certificate courses are offered by the college. 

    Ques. What is the eligibility criteria for M.Sc. course?

    Ans. Students who want to take admission in M.Sc. from WII, they have to appear for the NET Entrance exam with a minimum 55% marks in graduation from relevant disciple from recognized university. Selected students have to appear for the interview round for the final selection. 

    Ques. Do foreign students can apply for a PG course?

    Ans. Yes, foreign students can apply for the PG Course. But, they have to be from 7 countries of SAARC. Only SAARC countries candidates can apply for the admission. 

    Ques. Does the college provide hostel facility?

    Ans. Yes, college provides hostel facility for students. There are separate wings for girls and boys hostels.
