  • Students will learn and demonstrate critical thinking, skeptical inquiry, and the scientific approach to problem-solving by selecting and organizing information, identifying assumptions and causal relationships, distinguish between verifiable facts and value claims, determine the credibility of sources, distinguish between warranted or unwarranted reasons or conclusions, detect biases, and evaluate appropriate problem-solving strategies, their feasibility, and efficacy.
  • The mission of the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice is to provide students with a comprehensive education that skillfully integrates theory and application into a holistic and interdisciplinary course of study that prepares students for graduate and law school, and a host of wide-ranging career opportunities within government, non-governmental organizations, non-profit organizations, the private sector, and a wide array of social, philanthropic, and public service agencies both domestically and internationally.
  • The programmatic learning outcomes focus on developing competency in the areas of knowledge and understanding, effective communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, decision making, ethical and principled behavior, social research, and professional development.
  • In addition to developing these sought-after skills sets and competencies, the department focuses on preparing students for securing careers and continuing onto graduate and law school.
  • Students will have the benefit of a diverse and interdisciplinary faculty with a broad range of experiences and specializations.
  • Some of these include criminologists, criminalists, political scientists, forensic psychologists, counselors, judges, prosecutors, public defenders, federal agents, ambassadors and diplomats, and a wide variety of practicing professionals from local, state, federal, and international agencies.
  • The MA program consists of 36 credits.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • A GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required to be eligible for the program.

Indian Student Eligibility:

  • Students must complete an undergraduate degree with first-class in a relevant field from a highly ranked university in India.
  • Or, students completed a master's degree with first-class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
