Dalhousie University offers a Master of Health Informatics for a duration of 2 years.
It is an on-campus, thesis-based program offered on both a full-time and part-time basis.
Health informatics is changing the practice and delivery of health care by providing technology-enriched solutions to bridge the knowledge and information gaps experienced within the health care system.
The program offers training in analyzing the issues and then designing solutions to improve all aspects of health care, from the delivery of patient care to the promotion of healthy lives.
Students can pursue a research career in a university as a PhD student or join the industry.
Full-time students complete the program in 2 years and part-time students must complete the program in 4 years.
With full-time and part-time options, this program gives students the flexibility to choose a pace that works for students.
Students can now complete a certificate in Health Informatics as part of the new Master of Digital Innovation (MDI) program
The program has two streams:
- an internship stream
- a thesis stream
The thesis stream involves a 2-3 term research project under the supervision of a faculty member.
The internship stream involves a 13-16 week work term at a health informatics company or at a healthcare organization.
Students have to complete 9 core classes and Internships plus 3 electives or thesis plus 1 elective course.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

Students should have completed a 4-year bachelor's degree from a recognized university.
A minimum GPA of at least 3.0/4.33 (B grade) in the last 60 credit hours of study is required to be eligible for the program.

Indian Student Eligibility:

Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria:

Completed a 4-year UG degree with first class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
Or, completed a master's degree with first-class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
Or, completed a 3-year undergraduate degree from an accredited institution.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.

Statement of Intent: Reasons or intentions for pursuing studies in this program, including a description of prior experience.
Confirmation of Employment Form: Students must be emailed as an attachment by applicant or referee.
Proof of name change: Required only if name discrepancies exist between transcripts/assessments/test scores and other application documents. Examples of proof: Marriage/divorce certificates, 2 copies of government-issued ID that include a previous and current name and date of birth.
