The Petroleum Engineering program at the University of Calgary is one of the best in Canada.
Course Curriculum
Very good.
Exams
Yes, One has to submit one SOP, two LORs, and a CV. As my program is research-based and there is funding involved hence the selection is tougher. Before starting your application, you have to impress or convince a professor through your excellent academic or research profile. After he agrees to take you as a student. I have written SOP mentioning how the graduate degree will benefit me further. As I have previous working experience, I used it to show how one can work as a team and under pressure. LORs are digitized so you do not have to produce a physical copy. During your application, you have to provide details of the contacts of references. They will receive an email regarding your reference, it contains mainly objective questions on your research and another acumen. At the last referee has to write a paragraph on your performance.
Placement
The placement process in the North American region is quite different than in India. There is no such on-campus placement. You have to apply to open positions and get hired.
Internship
Not yet
Events
Very robust.
Fees
14000 CAD + 1800 CAD per year
Scholarship
My program is fully funded by the university. You will receive a minimum of 21000CAD per year along with any fee differential for an international student.
Faculty
Excellent faculty. There are very renowned professors who book I used to read during my under graduation.
Hostel
I live off-campus. We rented an apartment just a walk from the university. Rent is around 450CAD per month.
