I chose the university of Saskatchewan because they offered the nutrition program I was interested in and the program had a guaranteed internship. I am also from Saskatoon where the university of Saskatchewan is located.
Course Curriculum
I found the course curriculum to be diverse, encompassing many areas of nutrition, including childhood, food service and food and culture. I found it to offer an in-depth look at all areas of nutrition.
Exams
I took a nutrition entrance exam which consisted on a personal profile and an essay on a relevant issue in society.
Placement
During the internship there were placements in many areas of nutrition. Since finishing, the job opportunities have not been very good. There seem to be very few dietitian positions open, especially in my area.
Internship
Yes the university of Saskatchewan nutrition program has an internship, however, it is an internship that the student must pay for. The internship was a very valuable experience, exposing me to many areas of nutrition.
Events
The only event celebrated in my college that I can think of is research day. Research day is where all nutrition students who are completing their internship present about their research projects that they have worked on during the year.
Fees
There were various fees associated with both the university of Saskatchewan and the college of nutrition.
Scholarship
During my time at the university of Saskatchewan, I did not receive any kind of scholarship or financial aid.
Examination Structure
To become a dietitian, you must write an entrance exam that consists of multiple choice questions about any and all areas of nutrition. A certain mark is required to pass the exam and become a registered dietitian.
Faculty
The faculty in the college of pharmacy and nutrition at the University of Saskatchewan, particularly the nutrition faculty were great. They were very knowledge and did everything they could to help us succeed.
Hostel
I lived off campus at my parents house. I found it to be very helpful to live at home as it helped reduce the financial stress and burden. It was also nice to have family around for support. I am glad I could live at home while going to school.
