Yatin Review at Brock University, St. Catharines | Collegedunia

Goodman School of Business - BBA

7.0 /10

Brock University really stood out for me when it first set foot in my high school for conducting a seminar for it's various programs and that their business as well as accounting programs had placed alumni at the best firms around the country itself and brock was my first choice incase my plans of studying in the US fell apart. I like the program's diversification and how well planned it is along with it's practical technique of educating current students.

Course Curriculum :

All the curriculum and infact the entire program has been recognized by Canada's professional institutions such as CPA, Chartered Manager. With a good amount of courses in Sales, Marketing etc, I am fully satisfied that I'll be able to work with my chosen majors and all the content strapped inside the program receives regular updates from professionals employed and consulted by Brock University itself however it lacks the flexibility of choosing courses apart from business related ones.

Exams :

My scores: TOEFL 110/120 Required Score: 80-90/120 I am not sure about the required score

Placement :

50% of the international students at Brock are enrolled in Business Programs such as Business Communications, Accounting and Admin. I am not sure about profles offered after graduation however. Around 89% of total strength ended up finding suitable placements which is a satisfactory number taking into consideration how many students quit until the final years. The process is same as for co-op such as taking a private approach to meet and network with employers or ask help from the co-op department for setting up interviews .

Events :

I love the presence of more business-based clubs and other Indian supporting communities on campus. All our events for Hindu festivals are regulated and organised by them as well as the clubs offer more than just major related options such as Cooking, Public Speaking etc. The campus has gone through extensive renovation and has received upgrades in the past couple years which facilitate students from all programs. Round the clock gymnasium and student libraries are available on campus but are now shut in the event of a pandemic.

Scholarship :

I got the Brock Scholars Award for 1500 CAD/ Year. Renewability was subject to marks from following semesters.

Faculty :

Professor Barnes from finance has been insightful on topics spread throughout business. The class sizes decrease after first year and and it's like 1:20 for instructors to student ratio. Some of the faculty is part of a bad faculty pool such as instructors for HR and alternate instructors for finance. Concepts should be approached with a more focused approach in everyone's opinion. Specifically in lockdown, where we are supposed to do the assignments before we study anything from certain professors themselves.

Hostel :

My pick was off-campus accommodation listed on Real Estate Search Engine Kijiji and it's better to finalize a place before departing to Canada. The accommodation is run by an Indian family and it's sharing. Rent is a fixed 450 CAD but can increase in future leasing. For the cost, I get my own bedroom and furnishing and electricity as well as laundry is included in the aforementioned cost
