Ayush Malik Review at University Of Calgary [UCALGARY], Calgary | Collegedunia

As an Electrical and Computer engineering student: University of Calgary

AM

I got offered funding which significantly reduced the financial burden. I got acceptance by American universities also but I preferred Canada.

Course Curriculum :

Great. I have had a great time at University of Calgary. I have made so many friends both Indian and international. My professional network is also expanding due to the different opportunities offered by University. I am working on a research project and technically Canadian work experience in the domain in which I want to pursue my career. The courses were challenging and fun.

Exams :

Depends on the specific department one is applying to. My scores were TOEFL 116/120 and GRE 322/340.

Placement :

My domain is Artificial intelligence and it is currently a trending topic with a lot of influx of investment in my province. The prospects look good but there is no concept of campus placement in Canada. Here you have to apply on your own and have references if possible. Build your professional network and actually be knowledgeable to get a job.

Internship :

No, I didn't get an internship.

Events :

Campus life was fun before the pandemic. Had a lot of events where we got free Pizza. We had 2 pubs on campus where we could chill on weekends. We have an amazing ice skating ring where I learned ice skating on my own. The digital library is apparently the largest in North America. Lots of food outlets on campus, hair salons, pharmacies, clinics, etc.

Fees :

10000 CAD for the first year. Continuing fees of 3000 CAD for the second year. (Only for thesis-based students).

Scholarship :

Yes, but it's not exactly a scholarship. It's funding and I have to work as a graduate researcher and teaching assistant. It was around CAD 25,000 for the first year.

Faculty :

The ratio depends upon the course. For an in-demand course, it will be 60 to 1. For domain-specific courses, it could be 10 to 1 also. All the faculties are exceptional and have significant research contributions. Professors are definitely approachable.

Hostel :

Most student share an apartment or house but not rooms. Graduate students pay around 400 to 900 CAD per month depending upon location.
