Northern Lights College Admission Deadlines

Northern Lights College accepts admission applications for September, January, and May semesters.

The students are required to submit their complete application 6 months prior to the start date of the program. Since the start date varies with the programs, applicants should check the dates for their program of interest and apply accordingly.

Northern Lights College International Student Admissions

It accepts international applicants from all over the world. Applicants are recommended to check admission requirements for the program they wish to apply as prerequisites and English Language requirements vary with the programs.

Admission Requirements: Along with the completed application form, applicants should submit:

  • Applicants must fulfil the program-specific admission requirements.

English Language Proficiency Test Scores

Applicants must demonstrate their English Language Proficiency to study in Canada. The minimum score requirements vary with the programs. The general requirements are tabulated below:

Visa Process for International Students

After receiving a Letter of Acceptance, students are required to apply online for a study permit to study in Canada. The Designated Learning Institute (DLI) for Northern Lights College is O19395299444. In addition to DLI, the documents required while applying for the study permit are:

  • Proof of Acceptance
  • A valid passport or travel document
  • 2 passport photos with name and date of birth written on the backside of the photo
  • Proof of financial support
  • Letter of explanation

After submitting the application for a study permit and paying biometrics fees, within 30 days of time, applicants need to give biometrics. If the application is approved by the visa officer, the applicant needs to go for an interview.

Northern Lights College Undergraduate Admissions

It offers degree courses - Associate of Arts, Associate of Arts - AHCOTE, Associate of Arts (Health Studies), Associate of Science, Archaeology, and Criminology.

Also a number of Diploma and Certificate programs that include Archaeology, BC Adult Graduation, Business Management, Business Management Executive Assistant, Business Management Post Degree, Criminology, Education Assistant, Land and Water Resources, Social Services Worker, etc are offered.

Admission Requirements: The admission requirements vary with the programs. The general admissions requirements are:

  • For Academic and Career Programs
    • Successful completion of graduation or equivalent to graduation from a B.C. secondary school.
    • Factors such as Work Experience, Skills, Maturity may be considered and students may get conditional admission.
  • For Career and College Preparation Programs
    • Age of 17 years and out of school for a minimum one year, or
    • Age of 18 years or older
  • For Vocational and Dual Credit Programs
    • For most of the programs, successful completion of Grade 10, but some of the programs require completion of Grade 11 or Grade 12.

If the applicant does not have official transcripts demonstrating any one of the above-mentioned admission prerequisites, specific entrance assessments will be carried out for some of the programs or courses.

Here are some program-specific admission requirements for some of the popular courses offered by Northern Lights College:

Advanced Certificate in Business Management
  • Official transcripts demonstrating graduation from a post-secondary certificate, diploma, or degree program; or,
  • Two years of management or leadership work experience as demonstrated by a resume with two professional references; or,
  • Two current professional letters of reference written and dated within a year of application outlining the applicant’s suitability and readiness for the program.
University Arts and Sciences-Certificate in Engineering
  • Chemistry 12 or equivalent with a minimum final grade of "C+.";
  • Pre-Calculus 12 and Calculus 12 or equivalents with a minimum final grade of "B." ;
  • Physics 12 or equivalent with a minimum final grade of "C+."
University Arts and Sciences - Diploma in Criminology
  • One of the following with a 'C' grade (60%) or higher:
  • Pre-calculus 11, Principles of Mathematics 11, Foundations of Maths 11, or equivalent.

Once the completed application is received by the college, applicants will receive instructions regarding payment of application fees. If the application meets all the criteria defined for admission and seats are available for the applied program, a Letter of Offer will be sent to the applicant.

In order to confirm the seat and to receive a Letter of Acceptance for the application of a study permit, a deposit of 5,000 CAD has to be made. On receiving a tuition deposit, the college will send a Letter of Acceptance and a welcome guide.

Ques. Is this school registered with or accredited by PCTIA?

Ans. No, PICTA, or the new acronym PTIB, is for private career training whereas Northern Lights College is a public post-secondary institution.

Ques. How do Teleconferenced Courses work?

Ans. Teleconferenced classes have a set time and day where students and instructors gather on a global phone line free of charge which may range from 1 ½ hours to 2 hours in length.

Ques. How will I know if I’ve been accepted?

Ans. Students will be notified of the status of acceptance into the program via email.

Ques. Are there any bursaries or scholarships available?

Ans. The college offers scholarships and bursaries through the Northern Lights College Foundation which currently administers over 150 awards.

Ques. If I already have a clear criminal record check from the Ministry of Justice on file at my place of work, do I need to complete another one?
