- The dental hygienist is a member of the oral health team and is responsible for a wide range of services related to the provision of oral healthcare and patient education.
- The entry level Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degree program provides the education and training needed to become a dental hygienist.
- It also allows students to explore not only the professional responsibilities of a clinician but also roles in research, education, public health, administration, and advocacy.
- The Dental Hygiene undergraduate degree program includes classroom and laboratory work as well as hands-on experience at many specialty clinics, offering students a wide variety of patient experiences. Intraprofessional (dental students and dental hygiene students) joint courses and shared clinical care of patients further broadens the dental hygiene student learning experiences.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
- Students must have passed 12th with an equivalent of first division achievement.
- Students enter the dental hygiene program as sophomores.
- The average GPA of incoming students to the Dental Hygiene Program is 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

There are two types of visas students need to plan:
F-1:
- If students are requesting an I-20 for an F-1 visa they are required to submit evidence of the availability of funds for their expenses for the first year only, and also indicate source(s) of funding for subsequent years.
- Subsequent years’ funding is indicated by use of a checkbox on the Rackham Affidavit of Financial Support.
J-1:
- If students are requesting a DS-2019 for a J-1 visa they are required to submit evidence of the availability of funds for their expenses for the duration of their program.
- Use the estimated expenses to calculate the total amount they need to certify and provide the required proof of funds. Over 50% of funding must come from sources other than personal funds.
