The program of the Bachelor of Science Construction Engineering Technology at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University prepares graduates to work with architects, engineers, contractors and other entities concerned with construction (vertical and horizontal). Typically, program graduates perform work associated with project estimating, erection, supervision or management. This ability is derived from thorough exposure to construction techniques and materials, surveying, estimating methods, computer applications, contractual relationship and legal issues. All students are required to develop skills in technical writing and public speaking. In addition, students may complete courses in GI system, landscape, surveying, engineering and technology through the Construction Engineering Technology program and other academic units at FAMU. All graduates are encouraged to become Occupational Health and Safety (OSHA) certified offered in this division, complete at least two (2) internships, and demonstrate competency in computer programming and software application.

Construction Engineering Technology Program Educational Objectives

The Construction Engineering Technology (CNET) Program is designed to produce graduates who;

  • Are highly competent, technically trained, and construction orianted
  • Possess a solid mastery of fundamental engineering concepts and specialized construction training
  • Able to adapt to any professional environment and perform their jobs with confidenc
  • continue to learn and grow in the construction industry anywhere in the world while demonstrating good citizenship, and
  • Become leaders in their chosen field or employment
Construction Engineering Technology Program Outcomes

The CNET curriculum is designed with the objective to preparing students for life-long careers in the constuntly changing, technical and managerial enviroment of the construction industry. Students who successfully complete the curriculum will be prepared for entry into the industry or for further study at the graduate level in construction engineering technology or related fields of study such as law, bussiness and other engineering disciplines. To achieve this, a construction engineer must have;

  • Ability to select and apply the knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of the discipline to broadly defined engineering technology activities
  • Ability to select and apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering and technology to engineering technology problems that require the application of principles an applied procedures or methodologies
  • An ability to conduct standard tests and measurments; to conduct, analyze and interpret experiments and to apply expremental results to improve processes
  • An ability to design systems, components, or processes for broadly defined engineering technology problems appropriate to program educational objectives
  • An ability to function effectively as a member or leader on a technical team
  • An ability to identify, analyze, and solve broadly defined engineering technology problems
  • An ability to apply written , oral, and graphical communication in both technical and non technical environments, and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature
  • An understanding of the need for and an ability to engage in self-directed continuing professional development
  • An understanding of and a commitment to address professional and ethical responsibilities including a respect for diversity
  • A knowledge of the impact of engineering technology solutions in a societal and global context;
  • A commitment to quality, timeliness, and continuous improvement

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Application Requirements:

  • Submit an official or certified copy of all secondary and post-secondary records and/or examination results.
  • Official transcripts must be evaluated by a member of NACES and should have an English translation if not in English
  • Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or equivalent on a scale of 4.0
  • Submit official test scores of SAT/ACT
  • Submit English Language Proficiency test scores

English Language Requirements:

  • TOEFL: minimum 80 in iBT; 550 in PBT
  • IELTS: minimum 6.0

Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University have specific admission deadlines for undergraduate and graduate programs. The admission intake deadline for the fall session is May 1 for the undergraduate programs and February 1 for the postgraduate programs. You can apply via the ApplyWeb Application portal for UG and PG programs.
