A hallmark of the graduate experience at Gonzaga is close work with faculty members throughout the department. In keeping with our Jesuit mission, our graduate students explore the significance of philosophy for fundamental questions of human meaning and value.

With a broad spectrum of graduate courses and research opportunities (as well as scholarships and financial aid), our program has two major areas of study: History of Western Philosophy and Social and Applied Ethics.


Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Requirements:

  • Applicants must have a bachelors degree from an accredited university
  • Applicants must submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
  • Official transcripts must be evaluated by a NACES accredited agency such as ECE or WES
  • If GPA of the applicant falls below 3.0 then provide an explanation of GPA statement
  • Submit three letters of recommendation from professors, supervisors,managers etc
  • Submit a personal statement of philosophical background and interest
  • Submit a philosophical writing sample of 3500 words or less
  • Submit English Proficiency Test scores

English Language Requirements:

  • TOEFL: minimum 88 in iBT;
  • IELTS: minimum 6.5
  • PTE: minimum 58
