- The Seattle University Master of Science in Structural Engineering (MSST): a professionally-focused program designed in response to the demand for structural engineers with advanced technical and professional skills. As a student in the program, students will be immersed in the methods, technology, and best practices required by today's leading firms.
- The MS in Structural Engineering program has been developed collaboratively between SU faculty members and Seattle University Industry Advisory Board. The Industry Advisory Board is composed of representatives from the top structural engineering firms and public-sector institutions in the Seattle region. With industry help, Seattle University developed programming emphasizing student-centered course design and practical application.
- This program emphasizes learning through a student-centered course design. Courses are taught by full-time faculty who utilize teaching approaches that support student learning such as team-based work. Class sizes are small, allowing all students to have close interaction with faculty resources.
- By graduation, students from our Master of Science in Structural Engineering are expected to be able to:
- Apply principles of engineering mechanics and use appropriate tools to solve problems in structural engineering
- Design and evaluate structural components and systems to meet the desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, constructability, and sustainability
- Plan, compose and integrate verbal, written, and graphical communication to technical and non-technical audiences
- Function effectively as a member of an engineering team
- Discuss professional responsibility in light of the social context of engineering problems.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- Submit official or unofficial copies of transcripts, degree certificates, and exam score reports for every school attended in the last 60 semester/90 quarter credits as well as any postbaccalaureate credits. Students may upload the unofficial transcript(s) for their institution(s) within the Academic History tab of the application. Students may also upload the transcript(s) following the submission of their application via their Status Page.
- Evidence of an earned four-year baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an ABETaccredited institution or its equivalent.
- Satisfactory academic performance in mechanics-related courses (such as statics and mechanics of materials) as well as structural design courses (such as reinforced concrete and steel design); GPA in those relevant courses of 3.0 or above is typical for successful applicants (consistent with the minimum required GPA to maintain good status once enrolled in the program) but lower GPA will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Submit transcripts from the last 90 quarter/60 semester credits of the bachelor’s degree and any post-baccalaureate coursework earned.
- Applicants for whom English is a non-native language must demonstrate English proficiency regardless of English language studies, academic history, residence in the United States or an English-speaking country, or immigration status. English proficiency may be met with an official TOEFL score, or the IELTS exam; PTE score; or Duolingo score of 110.
