Field of Study:
$27,616/Yr
The University of Utah’s CLCS program builds on the basis of in-depth coursework in one or two languages and literatures (taught in the original language) and a core group of theory and methodology classes (taught in English). As a CLCS student, you will explore themes across cultures and time periods, compare national literatures and cultures, learn and apply international literary and cultural theories, and analyze diverse types of texts (literary, visual, musical, etc.) produced in multiple cultural spheres. CLCS students have the option of choosing one of two tracks for the program: Literature & Culture or Religion & Culture. Regardless of emphasis area, students choose elective courses from within or outside of the CLCS program in addition to core CLCS classes, preparing them for the culminating experience of the CLCS curriculum: the capstone project.
The Student Experience
Students may enrich their academic experience by completing a study abroad program or an original undergraduate research project. Outside of the classroom, you can network and engage with fellow students by participating in some of the Second Language Teaching and Research Center’s (L2TReC) many language-related activities and events. Additional involvmenet opportunities include the Language Exchange Program, the Cross Culture Club, and the Student Advisory Committee for the Department of world Languages & cultures.
Career Opportunities
Many careers are available to students of the Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies program. Enter the field of media and broadcasting and become a producer, journalist, press agent, or publicist. If you want a career in business, work as a marketing director, advertising agent, or human resources specialist. With additional education, students can also find employment as professors, curators, administrators, advisors, or librarians.
