One of the unique strengths of this cutting edge program is the focus on methods not just for teaching in public education, but also for teaching in applied theatre outreach situations—urban school settings, community outreach partnerships, social justice intervention projects, and non-profit professional and community theaters, especially within TYA, the Theatre for Young Audiences field that encompasses children’s theatre, youth theatre, and drama/theatre-in-education programming – any program that employs devised theatre techniques.

Theatre Majors in other BFA emphasis areas such as Acting, Musical Theatre, Stage Management, Design, and BA Theatre Majors, may still complete minimum requirements for a Theatre Teaching Endorsement qualifying them to enter a teaching certification program, to be taken either simultaneously or post BA/BFA graduation.

Graduates of the Bachelor of Arts in Theatre degree program have a broad foundation in theatre--with intensive academic training as well as a certain amount of applied training--combined with a broad program of general studies outside of theatre. The curriculum provides a broad coverage of theatre rather than intensive concentration on a single segment or specialization.
