SLU's mechanical engineering program starts with a solid foundation in the fundamental engineering sciences and progresses toward mechanical engineering courses. You'll also have the chance to take technical electives in the broader areas of structures, thermal and fluids, and design.

You'll be trained in computer-aided manufacturing using a number of rapid prototype machines and a high-speed machining center. And the fluid, thermal, material, mechatronics and structural testing equipment at SLU's Parks College of Engineering, Aviation and Technology will provide you with an excellent opportunity to integrate theory with real-world applications.

Two capstone design courses during your senior year provide greater depth in mechanical engineering, as you learn about the importance of design decisions not only on products but on society as a whole.

Mechanical engineering students at SLU have access to funded undergraduate and graduate research opportunities with faculty members of the department. Funded research grants from private industries and federal government research laboratories are also available for qualified students.
