The Art Education Program is an approved teacher preparation program that complies with state and national professional standards. The curriculum is further guided by the professional standards of the National Art Education Association. All of these agencies assure the highest professional program standards. Graduates of the program are eligible for teacher licensure in pre-kindergarten through grade 12.
Most art education students enter the teaching profession and teach art in either elementary, middle or high school. Others pursue further education to work as art consultants, art therapists, arts administrators, museum personnel, college instructors, and in other art-related business positions.
Goals
The program provides supportive learning experiences preparing preservice educators to:
1) Exhibit professional actions/behavior
2) Implement sound instructional strategies and assessment processes in the visual arts
3) Engage with works of art and age-appropriate artmaking processes
4) Demonstrate cultural literacy
Student Learning Outcomes
1: Students will demonstrate necessary professional skills and dispositions.
2: Students will show linkage between instructional strategies and assessment processes.
2a: Students will employ relevant technologies to support student learning.
3: Students will develop relevant developmentally appropriate curriculum that promotes engagement with visual culture and artmaking processes.
4: Students will demonstrate cultural literacy and sensitivity about diverse cultures and varied student populations.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Requirements:
- Minimum 20 units of high school coursework is required which should include 4 units of English, 3 units of Mathematics, 3 units of history, social studies or government, 3 units of science and 3 units of foreign language
- Submit up to date high school transcripts
- Submit essays about yourself
- One recommendation letter is preferred for all applicants
- Submitting SAT/ACT scores are optional
- Submit writing samples showing your research skills
English Language Requirements:
- TOEFL: minimum score of 70 on iBT
- IELTS: minimum 6.0 required
- Duolingo: minimum score of 105
