The BAS in Agriculture major was developed simultaneously alongside SMSU?s new BS in Agricultural Solutions degree program. Both of these new ag-related degree programs were designed in consultation with agricultural industry representatives, Minnesota?s community and technical colleges, the Agricultural Utilization Research Institute (AURI) and the Minnesota Agriculture and Rural Leadership (MARL) Program. These two new programs deliver the appropriate balance of academics, practicality and applicability.
The BAS in Agriculture builds on students? accomplishments achieved in during their two-year degree programs. The BAS program combines the advantages of technical expertise acquired in the Associate?s degree with the critical-thinking and problem-solving skills of a Baccalaureate-program. The depth and breadth of the overall BAS curriculum trains our students to understand and properly address the real-world challenges of agricultural and food systems.
This is an exciting time for our agricultural economy. Farm and food industries are changing daily as new biotechnologies, geographic information systems and worldwide growth in food-and-fuel demand drive-up the need for college-educated agricultural professionals. SMSU?s BAS in Agriculture is ideally designed to help students realize their potentials in this dynamic field of endeavor.
