- LMU's Bioethics program is multidisciplinary and facilitates learning and thinking from a multifaceted perspective. The program fosters the critical analysis of bioethical topics through the interplay between moral theory and medical practice. A minor, M.A., or Graduate Certificate in Bioethics can prepare students for doctoral study at another institution or complement other graduate work in fields such as philosophy, law, medicine, theology, and spiritual care.
- Developments in medicine and the life sciences have challenged our understanding of human nature, the goals of medicine, and the limits of our technological power over human beings. The field of bioethics addresses the ethical dimensions of such developments through analysis of issues such as medical experimentation, assisted reproductive technologies, stem cell research, and cloning, genetics, euthanasia, and assisted suicide.
- The Bioethics Institute offers two distinct graduate programs, giving students the option to earn a Master of Arts degree or a Graduate Certificate in Bioethics. Our programs engage students in systematic reflection on contemporary bioethical issues through a challenging liberal arts and sciences curriculum with a commitment to social justice.
- The Master of Arts in Bioethics is a multidisciplinary program that facilitates learning and thinking from an interdisciplinary perspective. It fosters the critical analysis of bioethical topics through the interplay between moral theory and medical practice. An MA in Bioethics can prepare students for doctoral study at another institution or complement other graduate work in fields such as Philosophy, Law, Medicine, Theology, and Spiritual Care.
