- Students in LMU's Chemistry major work to understand the theoretical and empirical nature of the science while gaining intellectual mastery of chemistry and developing practical experimental skills. Majors gain hands-on experience in traditional synthetic and analytic bench chemistry and utilize the latest methods and techniques. Chemistry majors learn to work in laboratories for organic, biochemical, physical, and environmental research using advanced instrumental and computational resources and benefit from small class and lab sizes, daily personal interaction with faculty and staff, and operation of chemical instrumentation.
- There are two tracks available in the chemistry major, ACS-certified track and General track.
- The Bachelor of Science degree program, approved by the Committee on Professional Training of the American Chemical Society (ACS), ACS-certified track in Chemistry, is designed to prepare the student not only for immediate entry into the profession of chemistry at the Bachelor's level but also for graduate study toward advanced degrees.

The Bachelor of Science degree program, General track in Chemistry, provides the student with a flexible program that builds upon a solid fundamental knowledge in chemistry. Students work with their advisors/chairperson to select upper-division elective courses in emphasis areas like health sciences - which include but are not limited to medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, optometry - and areas such as forensics, environmental chemistry, education, etc.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- International students are not required to submit the SAT or ACT to complete their application to LMU. Strong candidates for admission who do not provide these scores will provide alternate assessments of their academic abilities such as International Baccalaureate (IB) courses, Advanced Placement (AP) courses, A levels, or rigorous national examinations.
- Non-native English speakers must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) given by the Educational Testing Service and arrange for scores to be sent to the Office of Admission. As an alternative to taking the TOEFL, non-native English speakers may also take the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
