- The three LMU mathematics programs prepare students for a wide range of mathematical careers in industry, business, government, and teaching, as well as for admission to graduate programs or professional schools. Regardless of the program, they choose, LMU math students have tremendous flexibility in their future career options because of their abilities to problem solve, write logical arguments, think critically, learn quickly, analyze data, and clearly communicate complex ideas to others. These programs begin with the same foundational courses, allowing students to explore their mathematical interests before selecting a particular program. All mathematics majors obtain a broad foundation in pure, applied, and computational mathematics. Mathematics and Applied Mathematics majors earn a Bachelor of Science degree while students planning to become teachers earn a Bachelor of Arts degree and have the ability to complete the SB 2042 California Preliminary Single Subject (Secondary) Teaching Credential during their four years at LMU.
- Students of mathematics at LMU join a community of scholars consisting of faculty and other students. By design, the three-degree programs and department facilities promote interaction and joint work among students and faculty. The programs prepare students for a wide range of mathematical careers in industry, business, government, and teaching, as well as for admission to graduate programs or professional schools. All LMU math majors have tremendous flexibility in their future career options because of their ability to problem solve, write logical arguments, think critically, analyze data, and clearly communicate complex ideas to others.
- The Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics program is designed for students who want an interdisciplinary program that combines the study of applied and computational mathematics with a scientific area of specialization. This program can be tailored to meet the needs of students who expect to pursue a graduate degree in applied mathematics or science, expect to double-major or minor in a scientific field, or intend to work in a mathematics-related interdisciplinary field in the industry.
