- Students in LMU's Liberal Studies (Elementary Education) major are groomed for successful careers as elementary educators, specifically in grades K-5. Majors learn to synthesize subject content in the liberal arts, apply professional content to classroom teaching, and review and analyze educational policies. This major enables students to earn a bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies together with a California preliminary multiple subjects teaching credential within four years. Together with the LMU Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts, LMU's School of Education is approved by and meets all the standards of the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
- LMU offers a unique “blended program” in which students can earn their BA in Liberal Studies while simultaneously earning a California Preliminary Multiple Subject Credential in four years. Students graduate among the most employable of students and enter a profession where they positively impact many lives and make a critically important contribution to society. Students will also be well-positioned to help to meet the teacher shortage that exists and is expected to grow in coming years across the state of California. Throughout the student's program, they will have many opportunities to engage with elementary grade students in schools and in the wider community, through, for example, school-based art, field-based science, and community-based tutoring experiences. Students will also have opportunities to engage in research and will be closely mentored by faculty members and advisors throughout their years at LMU as a Liberal Studies major.
