Bachelor of Science [B.S] (Chemical Engineering)
Field of Study:
$33,552/Yr
The Department of Chemical Engineering is home to students who are working to pioneer new technologies and processes, designing a better, safer, and cleaner world through chemical engineering. Our hands-on educational approach combines chemistry, physics, and advanced math to provide the groundwork for successful careers in energy, materials production, bioprocessing, and more.
With our focus on research and technology, your impact on the world doesn't have to wait until graduation ? you can start right away. Our students and faculty conduct research for companies and governments, backed by millions of dollars in grant funding. We work to anticipate the engineering challenges of the future, and then collaborate across disciplines with our academic and professional peers to find innovative solutions. And we've received national attention for our efforts.
Chemical engineering is concerned with the development, design, construction, and operation of processes that control a material's change in composition, energy content, or state of aggregation, transforming it into chemicals for the manufacture of consumer products that improve quality of life. Some examples include new materials, fuels, energy, paper, textiles, electronic components, and medical devices. Our chemical engineering curriculum prepares you to meet the challenges of the chemical industry, research and development, and environmental and/or energy regulations.
Typically, chemical engineers:- Optimize the economics and energy efficiency of chemical processes in the petroleum and specialty chemicals industries.
- Develop, design, and implement safe, economical, and environmentally friendly chemical processes.
- Design and operate processes to meet environmental regulations.
- Research and develop new chemicals and materials.
- Apply chemical engineering problem solving skills to petroleum extraction and refining operations.
- Explore new sources of renewable and sustainable energy.
