Everything from bank account records, income tax returns, life and disability insurance records, pension plan information and wills are considered to develop a financial plan.As a personal financial planning major at Western Michigan University, you will learn interviewing and analytical skills to help you become financially savvy for your future career. You should be passionate about working with people and willing to fine tune and develop your communication skills to work with clients. Upon successful completion of the recommended coursework, you will be eligible to sit for the CFP exam.
Several student and professional organizations are available through WMU to help you make the right contacts in the industry and learn about the latest trends. They include the Financial Services Club, Financial Management Association, Society of Financial Service Professionals, CPCU Society, Financial Planning Association and West Michigan CFA Society.
