Visa to study in USA

Before going to the US and obtaining an F1 visa to study in USA, you must:

  • Get the form l-20. Once all the requirements are met, you will receive the Form I-20 by mail from Jackson State University. For more information, visit I-20
  • Pay the SEVIS Fee. The US in your country. You must pay this fee before the visa interview at the Embassy. To do so, you must hold your I-20 Form and obtain a receipt or Form I-797 to complete Form I-901 (On-Line). Print multiple copies of the receipt. You need someone with you for the visa interview, one for submission to JSU Global during check-in, and one for your records. Please note that you will need to use a credit card for this process.

  • Prepare documents for visa interviews. You must have a valid passport, admission letter from the school, proof of financial ability to meet expenses (original documents, no more than 3 months), and proof of intention to leave the United States upon completion of studies. Please visit the US Embassy website for your country to see if additional documents are needed and to schedule your visa appointment.

Note: Students can apply for F-1 visas at any time. However, the Foreign Department will only begin issuing the student visas 120 days before the first day of the start of the education program. Additionally, international students can enter the United States 30 days before the start of the program.
