Students seeking secondary Texas teacher certification are required to major in the specific subject area(s) in which they will teach and to take a prescribed set of education courses, including student teaching, during their undergraduate years.? Students interested in teaching in middle and high schools who then successfully complete all of the requirements for the M.A.T. will also satisfy all the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and Texas State Board of Educator Certification (SBEC) requirements for full Texas teacher certification.?

The baccalaureate degree for individuals who want to earn state licensure to teach in early childhood through eighth grade in Texas public schools is the B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies. Those who want to earn licensure to teach at the secondary level, major in their content area and then take courses taught through the education department to earn a concentration in education and become eligible to take the licensure exam.

Interdisciplinary Studies (education) majors interested in teaching in elementary schools who then successfully complete all of the requirements for the M.A.T. will also satisfy all the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and Texas State Board of Educator Certification (SBEC) requirements for full Texas teacher certification.

Students who are interested in teaching in Catholic schools, most especially at the secondary level, who successfully complete all of the requirements for the M.A.T. will also satisfy all the Texas Catholic Conference Education department pedagogy requirements for teaching in Texas Catholic Diocesan high schools.

Students who are interested in teaching in public charter or private schools where state certification is required who take?courses taken as part of the M.A.T. program will satisfy the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and Texas State Board of Educator Certification (SBEC) requirements for full Texas teacher certification.
