The program in business education is dedicated to preparing teachers who will be qualified and certificated to instruct students of all ages to live and work in a business environment.
The major is intended for those interested in teaching in public elementary, junior/middle, and senior high schools; vocational-technical schools; private business schools; or industry. Students have a choice of the following certification areas: marketing education or business, computer, and information technology.
A minimum grade-point average, in accordance with Pennsylvania standards, is required to apply for admission to teacher education, to take major courses in the department, and to student teach. The candidates for certification must also complete successfully the core battery and specialization sections of the Praxis examinations.
Before graduation, each business education student must document completion of 500 hours of business work-related experience. This experience can be acquired during summer vacations and in offices on the campus during the regular school term. Previous documented experience may also be counted.
The major is intended for those interested in teaching in public schools, career and technical centers, or private business colleges.
- Business majors can be involved in a variety of student organizations, including the International Business Association, Phi Beta Lambda, Pi Omega Pi, and the Student Technology Association.
- The Eberly College of Business and Information Technology offers a variety of scholarships and an honors program.
- Service learning projects and internship opportunities are also available, along with networking events with IT professionals through a partnership with the Pittsburgh Technology Council and other regional business-related organizations.
- Faculty members serve on national and international boards of professional organizations and publish in nationally and internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals.

Academic Requirements:
- Submit official transcripts of high school and other education completed
- Official transcripts must be evaluated by an accredited agency like WES, ECE or another member of NACES
- Submitting SAT/ACT score is optional
- Submit English Language Proficiency test scores
English Language Requirements:
- TOEFL: minimum 61 in ibt; 500 in PBT
- IELTS: minimum 5.5
- Duolingo: minimum 90
- PTE: minimum 46
