SUNY Fredonia is a comprehensive public liberal arts university set up in 1826. It is a constituent college of the State University of New York (SUNY). Fredonia is known to be home for the world renowned School of Music, offering more than 100 degree programs in Liberal Arts, Natural and Social Sciences, Education, Mathematics and Business.

In the fall of 2019, the university received 6,400 undergraduate applications out of which 4,400 were accepted. The University had an enrollment of 227 graduate students. SUNY Fredonia had an acceptance rate of 71%. Admission to the University is moderately selective but at the same time students admitted to the University have high grades and rank in the top half of their high school class.

To apply for admission at SUNY Fredonia, students must take note of the following points:

  • The University accepts applications for the Fall, Summer and Spring semesters.
  • Majority of programs are offered in the Fall and Spring sessions only.
  • The University follows a rolling admission process. Decisions are made as the applications are received and continue until all spots in the program are filled.
  • To hold a spot for the Fall semester, students are required to submit a deposit by May 1.
  • Students who meet all academic admission requirements except the English proficiency requirements can be admitted through the Pathway Admission Program. Under this program, students will be given classes in English language to improve skills and credit courses to improve scores.
  • The entering class of 2019 had a high school average of 90%, average SAT score of 1120 and ACT composite score of 24.
  • For admission in 2021, submission of SAT or ACT scores is not required.
  • A completed college preparatory program in high school and top rank adds value to the application.
  • Applicants for the School of Music and Theatre and Dance must carefully go through audition requirements. Visual Arts and New Media students must fulfill portfolio requirements.

COVID-19 Admission Updates

  • Due to the Covid-19, students can take classes online during the Fall 2020 semester by making a schedule with the academic advisor.
  • Students who are unable to receive their visa in time can take classes during Fall online and join campus in Spring i.e. from January.

SUNY Fredonia accepts international student applicants for maintaining diversity and equality around the campus.
