- Composed of four clusters of interest – interactive medias, cultures/ecologies, text/history, and embodiments – the Performance Studies Graduate Group engages students in ways of thinking about performance that is historically, politically, culturally, and rhetorically informed, using tools from theater studies, dance studies, anthropology, sociology, film studies, visual culture, linguistics, literary studies, ethnography, ethnomusicology, computer science, feminist theory and women’s studies, technocultural studies, religion, critical race and ethnic studies, critical theory, cultural studies as well as the emerging canon of performance theory.
- This rigorous, strongly interdisciplinary program encourages students to develop original dissertation research that explores and questions the artistic, social, and political ramifications of performance and the performative.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- A minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) from the institution where students have earned or will earn their bachelor's degree.
- Successful applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent that is comparable to a degree.
- Applicants whose native language or the language of instruction is not English must submit TOEFL or IELTS scores.
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores
- The GRE score requirement for the 2021-2022 admission cycle has been waived for all students.
Indian Eligibility:
- 4 year Bachelor's Degree, a 3 year Bachelor's Degree with a Post Graduate Diploma or Master's Degree, or a higher degree.
Scores Required
The GRE score is not required or accepted for Fall 2022 admission.
