- Students who major in English have unlimited career options. Many students prepare for a career in teaching. The major also provides excellent preparation for professions that draw upon skills in verbal analysis, critical thinking and communication such as journalism, publishing, advertising, technical writing, library science, business and government. Others pursue graduate or professional degrees. Recent UC Davis graduates are attending law school, medical school or graduate school in English or related fields.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- A high school diploma (or equivalent)
- Students who are not residents of California must earn a GPA of 3.40 or higher.
- SAT/ACT scores
- The University of California Board of Regents unanimously approved the suspension of the standardized test requirement (ACT/SAT) for all California freshman applicants until fall 2024.
- If students’ native language and school language of instruction prior to their study in the United States were not English, then they must demonstrate English proficiency. They can do so by submitting TOELF/IELTS score reports.
Indian Eligibility:
- Students must complete their standard XII years of education and sit for 10th and 12th-year board/state examinations.
Scores Required
SAT/ACT scores are made optional until fall 2024.
