Our Chem-Ed degree program is a joint effort between the Division of Mathematics & Sciences and the College of Education. This program prepares students to be secondary education school teachers with a certification to teach Chemistry. With the addition of a few courses, this program would prepare one for certification to teach Physics as well. The Chemistry Education Four-Year Degree Plan lays out a schedule that allows the student to take the Praxis after the Junior year and participate in a Directed Internship their Senior year.
The mission of the Division of Mathematics and Sciences is to provide high-quality instruction in mathematics and sciences, to encourage students to perform to their full potential, and to instill a scientific attitude that will develop scientifically literate, educated professionals. The Division seeks to develop the technical competence and the broad intellectual foundation needed to understand the impact of mathematics, science and technology on humans and to make informed decisions on social, ethical, and environmental questions.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Requirements:
- Applicants should submit official transcripts of all secondary coursework completed
- Official transcripts must be evaluated by an accredited evaluation agency like WES or ECE
- Applicants must have minimum 2.0 GPA or equivalent
- Submit SAT/ACT score
- Submit English Language Proficiency test scores
English Language Requirements:
- TOEFL: minimum 70 in ibt; 196 in CBT; 525 in PBT
- IELTS: minimum 5.5
- Duolingo: minimum 110
