Communication studies majors can select from several different tracks of study:
Corporate Communication Option
Communication is identified as one of the top skills required in any organization. This option provides students with the knowledge, skill, and perspectives to work in positions with high communication demands.
Interpersonal Communication Option
Designed for students interested in developing knowledge and skills that facilitate effective communication in personal, professional, and group contexts.
Graduates with this option are particularly well-prepared to work with individuals and groups from varying backgrounds, with differing needs and interests, and where the goals of communication are to resolve problems or disputes.
Mass Communication Option: Broadcast News Concentration
Designed for students interested in a career in radio/TV news, including anchors, writers, reporters, producers, videographers, weather and sports anchors.
Mass Communication Option: Electronic Media Production
Designed for students interested in learning the theories and techniques of radio and TV broadcasting, as well as non-broadcast applications. Emphasis is on non-news content. Students may select from four different emphases:
- Alternative Media Arts Emphasis: Designed for students interested in video production, but not the traditional TV industry. May include independent or internet video production.
- Audio Emphasis: Designed for students interested radio broadcasting or audio production.
- Multimedia Emphasis: Teaches students to produce content for the internet, including social networking.
- Video Emphasis: Designed for students who would like to work in the television industry or non-broadcast video production.
