Urshila Choubal Review at Emory University, Atlanta | Collegedunia

Absolutely amazing. I am extremely glad that I took the decision to study abroad.

UC
7.5 /10

Emory is the perfect school for a liberal arts + science education. My interests are math, gender studies, and South Asian studies; this combination works very well at Emory. The undergraduate class size is not too overwhelming, nor is too small that classes have a maximum of 10 people. The Math and CS departments are great and overlapping in many ways.

Course Curriculum :

Research is integrated in some way in almost every class after freshman year. Critical thinking, analyzing, and questioning is common themes found across all classes at Emory. Course material is always relevant and updated. The first two years at Emory exposes undergrads to all sorts of disciplines, through the general education requirements, so that each student has a holistic educational base.

Exams :

For my college applications, I used the Common App. In general, I needed 1 main SoP, my Cv, and 2 LoRs. Most of my colleges needed additional, specific essays that were short and were written answering a detailed prompt. I also submitted a dance portfolio to most of my colleges: this included my dance CV and a 20 min video showcasing my dances. I think this is what helped me the most, so I recommend adding something to your app that makes it more personal and humanizes your portfolio. There is no one way to guarantee admission, therefore I don't recommend going to any education company ( it made me nervous and unsure of my application). Applications should be as authentic as possible. I did not have any interviews or tests.

Internship :

Since both of my internships were in India, Emory could not help in securing these positions. However, the Emory alumni network primarily helped me circulate my CV. Mariott Hotels International- digital marketing analysis department.no stipend.Ericsson India- no stipend

Fees :

$54,000 per year.

Scholarship :

I do not have a scholarship

Faculty :

The student-faculty ratio at Emory University is 9:1, and the school has 62% of its classes with fewer than 20 students. Every single professor of mine till now has been approachable, organized, and extremely helpful: these are just some of the names: Tom Bing, Dwight Dufus, James Nagy, David Zureick-Brown, Gyanendra Pandey, Deboleena Roy, and Jose Soria.

Campus Life :

Emory's biggest asset is its campus life.

Hostel :

I currently do not live on campus. There are many residential complexes around Emory that have been used by students for years. Off-campus housing is not a problem. My two years on campus were very comfortable. Emory has one of the best dorms in the country with 7 buildings devoted to freshman and sophomore housing. There's a mix of suites(4 people), single rooms, and double rooms(2 people) in most dorms. The dorm rent per year is approx $8000.
