The prestige mostly. At the time I thought that I wanted to be a doctor and Johns Hopkins Hospital had such a great reputation that I thought the university would prepare me for being a good physician.

Course Curriculum

9

I thought that there should be a looser interpretation of what qualifies as an upper-level science class at Hopkins. We are limited to mostly molecular and cellular biology science classes and I believe that limited me and having a broad understanding of medicine.

Exams

I took the ACT 23, SAT 1250. I did not have to take any other exams in order to apply to Johns Hopkins University.

Placement

10

As a Hopkins today and I found that it was much easier than for the general population to get an internship at Johns Hopkins Hospital which was definitely a big plus. My internship leads to a job opportunity.

Internship

Internships were not a part of my curriculum as a natural science major but I do know that for some concentrations there was a mandatory research component in order to gain honors at the time of graduation

Events

10

There were so many events that were a cause for celebration at Hopkins. The major community event was called the Spring fair where many of the students came together for a weekend full of activities meant to strengthen our relationship with our community. We also have the presidential day of service where we volunteered our weekend to local efforts.

Fees

Hopkins was extremely expensive. For the first two years, you are required to live on campus and have a meal plan in which those two things alone added up to just under $20,000 a year. When you add that to the tuition and the cost of books and the lab fees it gets very expensive.

Scholarship

I had a need-based/merit-based scholarship that covered most of my tuition and because I did not have health insurance through my parents Hopkins provided a grant to allow the cost of my health care to be covered by the University. I did, however, have to go through a link to the appeal process with the financial aid office in order to gain these grants.

Examination Structure

In the major science classes, the exam structure typically consists of three midterm exams and one final exam. Your final grade was based on the average of those four exams, which was not ideal if you weren't a strong performer in tests.

Faculty

5

The faculty at Hopkins at least for undergrad is mostly there to conduct their research. That means we have very qualified and intelligent minds that are passionate about their research projects but not necessarily the best professors for teaching.

Hostel

8

For my last two years at Hopkins, I lived off campus which was extremely affordable compared to their on-campus housing. Off-campus housing was just as proximal to the University as on-campus housing. Most people live off-campus their junior and senior years and all grad students live off campus.
