I picked NJIT because of its small class sizes compared to the other 7 schools I applied to. Since I had a fee waiver for the application I did not have to pay the $75 application fee. After applying I heard back from them within 2 weeks about my decision. They do look for higher math scores and want you to take at least up to pre-calc in high school since math is deemed to be difficult here. NJIT has a tutoring center for all subjects so it is really easy to find help when one seeks help.

Exams

I decided to join this program because it was something I was always interested in and they offered certifications for Bloomberg Terminals and IBM Predictive Analytics for free while other schools I applied didn't have any types of certifications. They also got students started on the Salesforce Trailhead platform which taught us various skills that made their motto "business with the power of stem" accurate.

Placement

We have companies coming in to give information sessions about the opportunities they have available and what they're looking for along with 200+ companies for our career fair looking to hire our students. The percentage of students who find jobs and have a job lined up for them upon graduation is 90%. If students haven't found a job upon graduation they can still use the resources provided by CDS, our Career Development Service to search for a job.

Internship

There are plenty of opportunities for internships and on-campus employment. As a student who has an on-campus job in the admissions office I have had a great experience since I worked both in the office and with people giving tours to potential students. On average students do get 15-20 hours per week based on their availability and it does have flexible hours since they do understand we are students along with a $10 per hour pay rate. To apply for an on-campus job students do have to apply through the on-campus employment pipeline where students can view the 100+ employment opportunities we have available. Each job does have its requirements so students can take a look at the description to see if they meet the criteria.

Fees

It is $8000 per semester but financial aid does bring it down to $2000-$3000 per semester.

Scholarship

Applying for FAFSA is quite easy and if needed financial aid is happy to address any concerns. I have not had to take out any loans during my time here. International applicants are awarded scholarships based on their credentials and previous academic records.

Faculty

The faculty is great and very accessible. They are always happy to help students when help is needed and have office hours that students can attend to get help from them. They also get to know the students since the classes are small. There 25 students to 1 professor and a lot of these professors do have a Ph.D. and conduct research in their respective fields.

I am a commuter and live at home since I do live nearby. It's only a 5-minute bus ride and a 15-minute train ride away. I do buy a monthly pass for the public transportation I use and there are student discounts offered to students. Students can get up to 25% off the monthly passes. I do know quite a bit about being a resident on campus even though I am a commuter. We have two freshman resident halls and during their freshman and sophomore year, they are required to get an unlimited meal plan. Commuters can also get a meal plan that can be flexible if they'd like although there are plenty of restaurants nearby that offer a student discount since there are 3 other universities besides NJIT in that area. We have two other resident halls on campus for the upperclassmen along with honors resident halls on campus. Nearby off-campus is available right across the from NJIT that is not affiliated with NJIT on anyway.
