The course structure for Data Science was the best amongst other universities. As my area of interest is in Big data and Machine Learning, Professor Roshan Usman and Professor Chase Wu are the best in the industry with their ongoing research projects in the data science field.

Course Curriculum

9

It's having one of the finest curricula for Data Science amongst other universities. NJIT has provided us an option to choose from 2 tracks. One being computational track. Other being statistical track. As I had previous work experience of coding, I opted for the computational track.

Exams

I gave TOEFL in which I scored 97 out of 120 and GRE in which I scored 296 out of 340. I didn't take university-level exams as my bachelor was in the same field.

Internship

Yes, I've been selected as a Research assistant for the NJIT research department. This department builds the software which is being used by the NJ state transport department. Mostly the projects are research-based and we work under the guidance of the professors.

Events

10

NJIT has a much different cultural community. NJIT funds them to arrange different events so that students can come along and know each other and enjoy it. Recently we had a garbhangra event in which we had Garba, bhangra dance and Indian dinner. We also had Mahashivratri event in which students painted lord, Shiva.

Fees

Fee structure includes university fees, tuition out of city graduate, graduate student association, matriculation, health insurance.

Scholarship

Yes, I got a scholarship from NJIT as I had almost 4 years experience, 3 years Diploma, 3 years Bachelors, 6 months in Postgraduate Diploma. All done in information technology. I also had some extracurricular certificates like Microsoft student partner, etc which helped me to get the scholarship. Apart from my scholarship, I also have financial aid from Prodigy Finance.

Examination Structure

Grading is split among the following factors: Quiz, assignments, midterm exam, midterm project, final exam, final project. Whereas assignments, a midterm project, and the final project is a coding task. Percentage distribution depends on professor to professor, but usually 10% quizzes, 10% assignments, 20% midterm exam, 20% midterm project, 20% final exam and 20% final project.

Faculty

9

The faculties are good. Some are focused on practical implementation whereas some are focused to cover all the theoretical stuff. They give weekly assignments and a bi-weekly quiz to catch up with the syllabus.

Hostel

Off-campus is best for my needs as it's a lot cheaper. I know to cook, so I usually cook at home. On campus dorms don't have kitchens, forcing to opt for a meal plan which is way too costly. Luckily, my off-campus house is walking distance away from the college. So it feels like I'm on campus only.
