Bella Lanza Review at Boston University [BU], Boston | Collegedunia

Bella Lanza's Experiences

BL
8.2 /10

I applied to 7 colleges and of those, I was accepted to 5. Waitlisted at one and guaranteed transfer to another. So I went to Ithaca College for a year and then did guarantee transfer to BU. I didn't plan on transferring to BU but I hated Ithaca so much that I couldn't stand to be there for three more years. Transferring to BU was the best decision I made.

Course Curriculum :

I think the Course Curriculum at BU is very fair. It's a good mix of general education classes and classes for my major.

Exams :

I only took the SAT and got a score of 1220. I did better in English than Math which makes sense as a Communications major. As far as other standardized exams go, I live in NY so we had to take regents exams and I did fairly well on all of them. The only AP I took was AP Biology and I scored a 3.

Internship :

They do offer both internships and on-campus jobs. We have a portal on our student link where all the opportunities are listed and they provide how to apply. A range of pay depending on the job.

Events :

At the beginning of the year, we have a huge event on Nickerson Field called Splash where all the clubs and sports promote their groups.

Fees :

Just tuition for BU is around 25k per semester. That's excluding housing, meal plan, etc. I would guess that suite-style housing with a standard meal plan is around 9k per semester. I didn't get any scholarship money. Scholarships at BU are merit-based. Those who need the money do get full rides.

Examination Structure :

I think the exam structure at BU depends on the class. Some students take exams online and some in person. We're allotted enough time and are always proctored whether by the TA, professor, or both.

Faculty :

At BU I have taken classes that have large lectures with smaller discussion sections and also small class consisting of around 15 students. I think all my professors have been good and explain concepts well. My TAs and TFs on the other hand, are not the best.

Hostel :

I think it's best to live on campus for your first two years. Some housing is extremely nice especially being in a city. As long as you don't get the short end of the stick for housing, it's worth it. The meal plan is a little overpriced but not much you can do about that.
