IIT Kanpur Signs MoU with University of Buffalo for Research in Biomedicine and Bioengineering

New Delhi: One of the leading IITs in India, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with University of Buffalo (UB) to initiate research in the field of biomedicine and bioengineering.

Under this initiative, IIT Kanpur and the University of Buffalo will aim to establish an IITK-UB Joint Centre of Excellence in Biomedicine and Bioengineering. The centre will aim towards facilitating long-term collaborations in education and research between both institutions.

The officials shared that “the centre will develop materials and technologies for bioscience applications and facilitate long-term joint research collaborations. This centre would provide opportunities to our researchers, faculty and students in taking forward research in core areas”.

In addition to this, the IITK-UB Joint Centre will offer various student exchange programs to students of IIT Kanpur and UB. It will also facilitate collaborative research and training programs, joint conferences, thematic workshops and exchange of scholarly material.

Speaking on this occasion, IIT Kanpur Director, Abhay Karandikar shared, “The agreement we signed today with University at Buffalo is in continuation to an existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutes”. Adding to the statement, Abhay Karandikar shared, “both institutes have strategic objectives to collaborate for research that would help us build a robust ecosystem in Biomedicine and Bioengineering through this collaboration”.

Earlier in 2017, IIT Kanpur and the University of Buffalo (UB) signed a joint degree programme agreement with the aim to provide eligible doctoral students with an opportunity to conduct research at the partner institute and get degrees from both IITK and UB.
