PDM University Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria
Given below are the eligibility criteria that enable the applicant to apply to the Ph.D. program. If one fails to satisfy the below conditions, their candidature stands rejected or dismissed.
- Must possess a master’s degree with 55% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA from a recognized university/ college.
- The masters’ degree should be in a concerned or allied subject to which the applicant is applying for in Ph.D.
- There would be a relaxation of 5% to SC, ST, Reserved, and Non- Creamy Layer of the society.
- There would also be a relaxation of marks for differently-abled and other categories of students as prescribed by the UGC from time to time.

Program Structure
- Duration: Given below is the duration for the completion of the Ph.D. Program at PDM University:

- Course Work: All the applicants who have been registered at PDM University in its Ph.D. program must take coursework. This would be applicable for both CATEGORY 1 and CATEGORY 2 students. Students who completed their M.Phil. Degree (in regular mode) is exempted from this course work and course work examination only if they have done the same course work in their M.Phil.
- Course Schedule: 60 hours of classes for each paper.
- Attendance: 75% compulsory attendance for both full-time and part-time students is required.
- Coursework Examination: The coursework examination is for 3 hours with 100 marks for each theory paper. A minimum of ‘C’ grade on a 10 point scale is mandatory to score. The course will have 2 theory papers:
Paper 1: Research Methodology (100 Marks) | Common paper for all departments having research techniques/ methods of their concerned subject |
Paper 2: Broad Field of Specialization (100 Marks) | Current concepts or trends in the concerned specialization of the student |
- Submission of Synopsis: The scholars have to submit 6 copies of the synopsis to DRC via the HOD or Supervisor. They must ensure that they very briefly explain and present in just about 800-1000 words about all the research work that they have done that they will be including in their thesis. A PDF file in the form of a CD or DVD must be submitted.
- Seminar Presentation: There would be a pre- Ph.D. presentation before the submission of the thesis wherein the scholar would present in front of their concerned department faculty members and fellow scholars.
- Submission of Thesis: The thesis has to be written in English which extensively covers the research done by the scholar. At least 2 research papers must be submitted by the research scholar in any refereed journal. Plagiarism would be accepted on the norms of existing law. The thesis must encode a certificate duly signed by the concerned supervisor.
- Viva Voce: After the final report from DRC and approval of the thesis, the final viva voce is arranged on the thesis. The viva-voce committee might provide some recommendations and corrections to the scholar (if any). After the final result and recommendation of the Viva Voce Committee, the Dean Academic Affairs on informing DRC will take the final approval from the Vice-Chancellor.
