How are hostel facilities in KGMU, Lucknow for MBBS students?

KGMU has some of the best hostel facilities among UP government medical colleges. First-year students are allotted a new C.V. hostel for boys and a V.L. hall for girls.

The rooms are well-maintained and hygiene is maintained through regular cleaning and moping of washrooms. The food served in the mess is average. Here is what the New C.V. hall looks like

T.G. hostel

Second-year boys are transferred to the T.G. hostel which is 1–2 km away outside campus. The hostel is an 8-story apartment-like building. The hostel has single occupancy rooms for everyone with a recreation room. The recreation room has pool tables and T.T. Tables, a 2 dumble and one barbell gym, and a canteen. This hostel has average cleaning facilities. This is what the hostel looks like

S.P. Hostel

For the remaining years, the students are allotted are S.P. hostel on the campus itself. It's a huge hostel with double occupancy rooms. It has amazing sports facilities like a badminton court, gym, a T.T. room and an attached ground and basketball court with it.

PG students are allotted the Nehru P.G. hostel, Gautam Buddha, and Mahamaya hostel which offers a lavish and comfortable hostel lifestyle.

Overall, despite being a government college, KGMU has excellent hostel facilities.

The hostel facilities of IMS BHU and KGMU are at par with each other with no major differences. Here are the year-wise hostels allotted to students of both colleges

First-year:

BHU : First-year students of BHU are allotted the Punarvasu Atreya Hostel. This is the hostel with the best facility wherein students are offered double occupancy rooms. There are some restrictions in the initial months. The mess food in this hostel is decent and it also has a small play area. Other facilities include 24-hour electricity and water supply with free internet wifi.
KGMU : KGMU first-year students are allotted the CV hostel that has double occupancy rooms. It has Wi-Fi availability, scenery mess food, and a canteen, but is slightly larger than the Atreus hostel of BHU

So, for the first-year students, KGMU hostel > IMS BHU hostel

Second Year

IMS BHU: The second-year students of IMS BHU are allotted the Ruiya hostel which is the most beautiful hostel of IMS BHU. It’s known for its lush greenery and is widely spread in a huge area. The rooms are triple occupancy.
KGMU: The second-year students are allotted to the TG hostel which is a multistorey building situated in a colony. Single occupancy rooms are allotted to every student. The only drawback is that it’s quite far away from the main campus.

So for the second year, IMS BHU hostel >KGMU

Third year and Last year:

IMS BHU : The third-year students of IMS BHU are allotted the Ruiya annex hostel which is very well furnished with double occupancy rooms. In the last year, students have been allotted the Dhanvantari hostel which has single occupancy rooms.
KGMU: The third and last-year students of KGMU are allotted with SP hostel which has double occupancy rooms. If you score good marks in your final year, then you may get a single-room

So for third-year hostels, IMS BHU ~KGMU

Overall, the hostels of both IMS BHU and KGMU are equally good in terms of cleanliness and maintenance.

From what I heard, everyone who applies early during the admissions process gets a hostel room at KGMU irrespective of the fact if you are a local or not. Sometimes students who aren’t allotted room initially, get one after a month, after the backlog of applications is cleared. So here are a few tips to get a hostel room easily at KGMU Lucknow

Apply early by paying 6000/- as yearly room charges
Make sure to make a good friend in the admission room so you can apply for a room together.
Make sure you are a regular hosteller who follows all the rules at least for the first six months.

Here is some information about both these colleges to help you make a better decision-

JIPMER is the AIIMS of South. It has a better academic culture. Everything, from peer groups to labs, is top-notch over there. Both the colleges have decent hostels.
JIPMER has a bit more exciting campus life. But KGMU makes up for this with its festive celebrations.
JIPMER puts great emphasis on student research, so student learning is supposedly better. The internships are immensely rigorous over there.
Lucknow serves really good chicken meals. At KGMU, you’ll get good non veg meals. People from the North face food and language barriers at JIPMER, but they adapt eventually.

Based on this information, I would say that JIPMER is overall better. However, even KGMU is a really good choice for your medical studies.
