B.Tech in Electronics and Telecom Engineering Eligibility, Colleges and Jobs

Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Electronics and Telecommunications or Telecom Engineering is a 4 year undergraduate engineering course, minimum eligibility for which is an intermediate degree (10+2) with Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry or any other technical subject (Computer/ Biotechnology/ Biology).

Like other engineering courses, admission to this course is either through JEE Main ranking or performance in state level or national level entrance examinations. Some colleges also conduct interview for the candidates who have cleared the entrance test.

Eligibility Criteria for B.Tech in Electronics and Telecom Engineering

For availing admission in a B.Tech program for Electronics and Telecom Engineering, the candidate must have successfully passed the higher secondary certificate (10+2) examination or its equivalent with subjects Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry or any other technical subjects such as Biology, Computer Science, etc.

Candidates need to score a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate in three major subjects taken together. SC/ST and other reserved categories have an advantage of 5% relaxation in total marks. English can also  be one of the mandatory subjects in the qualifying examination, however, this can vary from university to university.

For IITs, it is compulsory to qualify in the JEE Mains and Advanced examination.

Diploma degree holders can get admission directly in B.Tech second year with lateral entry. They have to follow some admission rules as per the university.

The admission process for B.Tech in Electronics and Telecom Engineering Engineering is based on the performance in the entrance examinations: state level or national level engineering entrance examinations such as AIEEE or JEE. Some institutes also provide direct admission via Board Merit list considering the marks obtained in the qualifying exam.

  • Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main – JEE is a two-tier examination: Main & Advanced. Students can get admission in most of the engineering institutes through JEE Main exam while IITs only consider the ranking based on JEE Advanced exam. Online application process begins around December first week and last date of online submission of applications is by January second or third week.
  • Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MH CET)MH-CET is a common entrance test conducted in Maharashtra for providing undergraduate and postgraduate admissions in engineering & technology and pharmacy courses offered by various government and private colleges of Maharashtra state. Online application forms are available in February and examination is held in May first week. The basic eligibility for undergraduate courses is pass in 10+2 (HSC). The exam pattern is MCQ based.
  • Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (AP or TS EAMCET) – AP EAMCET is a state level entrance examination conducted by JNTU Kakinada on behalf of the Andhra Pradesh State Council for Higher Education (APSCHE) while JNTU Hyderabad regulates the TS EAMCET on behalf of the Telangana State Council for Higher Education (TSCHE). Application forms for EAMCET are released in first week of February. AP-EAMCET exam is held in last week of April every year whereas TS EAMCET exam is held in the month of May.
  • West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) – WBJEE is a state level entrance examination for the purpose of conducting Joint Entrance Examination for admission to various institutions in West Bengal imparting education in medical, engineering and technological courses. Examination is held in month of April every year and application forms are available in January.
