Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) offers an affordable and well-regarded engineering program. The admission process includes an entrance exam in April, followed by counseling in June, involving document verification and hostel allotment. AMU's faculty is highly qualified, with over 20 professors per department, many holding advanced degrees from foreign institutions. The engineering course fees, including hostel costs, range from INR 50,000 to 60,000, which is significantly lower than many other institutions.
Annual fees for courses are approximately Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 21,000, with the first-year BTech fees around Rs. 18,000 for non-hostlers and Rs. 21,000 for hostlers, decreasing in subsequent years. The total cost for a four-year engineering course is about Rs. 80,000 to Rs. 85,000. AMU offers scholarships for top-performing students and several government scholarships, reducing the financial burden. Placement opportunities are promising, with around 80-90% of students securing jobs annually.
IT companies like Wipro, TCS, and Accenture are major recruiters, offering average salary packages between 4-6 LPA. The highest package in 2023 was 1.25 Cr, while the lowest was 2.3 LPA. Computer Science and AI students often secure higher packages, averaging 6-7 LPA. On-campus placements start from the 7th semester, with internships available from the 5th semester, offering stipends averaging 7,000 per week. Companies such as Amazon, Adobe, and Maruti Suzuki also recruit from AMU, often beginning with internships that lead to permanent positions.
Despite occasional small fee hikes, AMU remains a cost-effective choice compared to other Indian engineering colleges.
