Admission to the college is based on the GATE examination. In 2018, a GATE score of 467 secured a seat in the second round of counseling. Initially, students may be assigned to branches like Hydro Informatics but can change streams through a process called floating, as seen when a student switched to the Thermal Science and Engineering branch. The faculty is highly qualified, with all members holding PhDs from prestigious institutions.
They are approachable, supportive, and often share valuable experiences with students, creating a friendly academic atmosphere. The MTech program costs approximately 38,000 INR per semester, plus a hostel fee of 28,000 INR, but students receive a monthly stipend of 12,400 INR. For BTech, fees are lower for SC/ST students, and EWS students also receive stipends. The college provides various internship opportunities for both BTech and MTech students, including international internships for MTech thermal students.
Despite timely stipend disbursements, MTech placements in the core sector are limited. The college offers a GATE scholarship of 12,400 INR monthly to eligible students, and additional scholarships for those who excel academically. However, BTech students from economically weaker sections may need to consider loans to cover their tuition fees.
