The Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University (TNPESU) is an affiliatory university established in 2004 in Chennai, with a motive to improve the quality of Physical and Sports education in the state of Tamil Nadu. At present the University has three Faculties, five Departments and ten affiliated Colleges.
TNPESU invites applications for part-time and full-time Ph.D. Programmes with provisions to do research work in the University or the approved research centres for part-time Ph.D. programmes. Admission to the Ph.D program are entrance based, while the marks scored in the qualifying degree examination and an interview also play an important role in preparation of the merit list.

TNPESU PhD Eligibility Criteria
For all disciplines:
Candidate must have qualified for Master’s Degree (10+2+3+2 pattern or equivalent in this order) of this University or of any other university recognized by the syndicate of this university as equivalent with not less than 55% of marks for General category, 50% for SC/ST and those who completed their PG degree on or before 1991 or a CGPA of 5.51 and above in the 10.00 point scale or B grade in the seven point scale, under CBCS, for the subjects of Physical Education, Yoga, Exercise Physiology/ Exercise Physiology & Nutrition, Sports Biomechanics and Kinesiology, Sports Management, Sports Psychology, Sports Sociology, Sports Coaching and Sports Technology respectively.

Note: However, the Vice-Chancellor has the discretionary power to nominate a research committee to decide the equivalence of a degree for the admission to any Ph.D. programme.
TNPESU PhD Selection Process
Candidates are selected keeping 3 factors in mind: the Entrance Exam, Interview, and marks in the PG Degree.
Entrance Exam: This would involve two papers of 50 marks each and 50 Objective Type Questions. Paper 1 is General Paper on Teaching and Research Aptitude. Paper 2 is on Concerned Subject.
Interview: This is of 25 marks in which students are screened on the basis of their communication skills and intellectual level.
PG Degree marks: Marks obtained in the P.G Degree is converted to a maximum of 25.
Based on the performance in the entrance test and interview, the successful candidates shall be short-listed. If you secure 50% of the total marks altogether in entrance test, Interview and PG Degree, you will be eligible for Ph.D. admission.
Note: If you have qualified in NET/SLET/other National Level Eligibility Test, you will be exempted from entrance test and you will have to appear for the interview only. You should secure more than 50% marks in the Interview to secure admission.

- Candidates must fill in the application with necessary details.
- Candidates must attach a Demand Draft of Rs.750/- drawn in favour of the "The Registrar, Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University, Chennai -600127"
- Candidates must submit the Application Form to the Principal of Approved Research Centres of this University the through proper channel, before due date.
