Masters of Science in Biochemistry or M.Sc. Biochemistry, as it is mostly famous among the students, is a two year postgraduate program in the field of biochemistry. It mainly focuses on providing the enrolled students an advanced level of understanding about the chemical processes that goes within and related to living organisms. The minimum eligibility requisite for this post graduate program is a graduation degree in science and related fields.
M.Sc. Biochemistry is offered by many private colleges and universities in India. The enrolled student will have to study for theory exams, undertake practical exams and submit a project and dissertation at the end of the course. The tuition fee for M.Sc. Biochemistry ranges from ranges from 30,000 to 2.5 lakh. In distance learning mode, it ranges from 5,000 to 20,000 INR.
An M.Sc. Biochemistry graduate student can get hired by big companies like Ranbaxy, Cipla, Surya pharma Ltd. and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories and can earn anywhere between 10,000 INR to 35,000 INR per month, in the beginning.
M.Sc. Biochemistry course is designed to provide the students the perfect balance of theoretical and practical knowledge required for the biochemistry world. It also focuses on training the partaking students on further research in the still emerging biochemistry field.
The program involves advanced level practical and theory courses in topics like genetic engineering, enzymes, immunology, proteins, molecular biology and biochemical and biophysical techniques etc.
The course is apt for those having keen interest in studying about the various chemical reactions and combinations that takes place in various living organism’s biological processes such as reproduction, growth, heredity and metabolism.
The duration of M.Sc. Biochemistry is 2 year in full-time mode like it is in colleges like The Oxford College of Science, Bangalore, Fergusson College, Pune, Ramnarain Ruia College, Mumbai, Ethiraj College for Women, Chennai and SIES College of Arts Science and Commerce, Mumbai.
While in distance learning the course can be extended upto 4 years. Like in Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University, Allahabad and Jiwaji University, Gwalior the students are provided with additional years to complete all the assignments and pass all the papers.
There are numerous academic options ahead of a M.Sc. biochemistry graduate if they want to study further and hone their skills. They can go for Masters of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Biochemistry, Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biochemistry and there are many science college that offer doctorate programs to help such students.
