Established in 1987, Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research is located in Mumbai, Maharashtra. At present, the institute offers two programmes viz. M.Sc. Economics and M.Phil./ Ph.D. in Development Studies. For M.Sc. Economics programs, the candidate must have completed under graduation with 55% marks in Economics and 60% in the remaining subjects. In case of M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Development Studies, the candidate must hold a post-graduation degree with 55% marks in Economics and 60% in the remaining subjects.

IGIDR M.Sc. Economics Admission 2023
This is a two-year programme offered in Economics at post graduate level by the institute. To be eligible for admissions to the M.Sc. Economics programs, candidates must have completed their senior secondary school from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) or any other recognized board with Mathematics as a compulsory subject.
Interested candidates can register online by filling out the application form through the institute website and submit the application fee through the available online modes. After the entrance examinations, the students shortlisted in the merit list will be notified to appear for an online interview for the final evaluation.

Candidates who are able to successfully complete the M.Sc. programme at IGIDR and fulfill the eligibility criteria as per the regulations of the institute can further apply for the M.Phil./Ph.D. programme. IGIDR M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Development Studies Admission 2023
In addition to M.Sc in Economics, the university also offers two-year M.Phil/ Ph.D in Developmental Studies. In order to be eligible for M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Development Studies, applicants must have completed post graduation with 55% marks secured in Economics. Mathematics as a main subject during senior secondary school is compulsory as a part of minimum eligibility criteria. Both M.Phil. and Ph.D. program require submission of thesis for the completion.

If a candidate pursuing M.Sc., M.Phil./Ph.D., wishes to enroll for the Ph.D. program, it is mandatory for him/her to qualify the oral comprehensive examination where he/she is required to submit a proposal form and participate in the evaluation seminar as well as fulfill the minimum eligibility criteria in terms of grades requirement.
Applicants can apply online by filling out the application form on the institute website and paying the application fee through online mode of payments. After the entrance examinations, the students who get selected in the merit list will be notified to appear for an online interview for the final evaluation.
IGIDR Application Form 2022
- Candidates must visit the institute website and click on the apply online section. This will redirect the applicant to a new page.
- For the registration process, he/she must click on the “Click here for New Registration” and fill in the required details correctly.
- Once the details are filled, a provisional registration number as well as password will be allotted to user. He/she will also receive the, a provisional registration number as well as password via SMS.
- Candidates can finish filling up details in one sitting or he/she has a choice to save the details and continue later by selecting “” SAVE AND NEXT”. This option must also be used to cross check the details to avoid any incorrect details in the application form.
- Post filling in all the details, he/she must upload the scanned photographs and signature in the space allocated in the application form and proceed to fill in the remaining details.
- Candidates can view the status through the Preview Tab and cross check the details. Next, they can proceed for Final Submit option.
- After this, he/she must go to the Payment Tab and make a payment of Rs. 500/- (Rs. 100/- for SC/STPD candidates) through online payment modes such as Master/visa Debit cards.
- The candidate will receive an e-receipt indicating a successful payment status. It is mandatory to take a printout of the e-receipt and the application form.
- The institute uploads all the admit cards on the web portal. Additionally, the details regarding the allotted examination centers is also uploaded on the website.
IGIDR Reservation 2022
The university follows reservation as per the guidelines issued by the government.
For candidates belonging to SC/ST/PD category, the online application fee is Rs.100/- only. They are required to upload a scanned copy of the required certificate as a proof which must be issued by a competent authority.

This scholarship is funded by the International Development Research Center, Canada (IDRC). Those who get selected for this scholarship will receive a monthly stiped of INR 26000 and one round of travelling expenses up to a maximum amount of INR 50000, fixed medical coverage of amount INR 25000, and allowable book reimbursement and travel allowance for conference travel.
IGIDR-IDRC Post-Doctoral Scholarships for Scholars from Select Asian Countries
Those who get selected for this fellowship will receive a monthly stipend of INR 50000, one round of travelling expenses up to a maximum amount of INR 50000, fixed medical coverage of amount INR 25000, and research grant of INR 100000, and conference travel support up to a maximum amount of INR 150000.
