I chose the metallurgy course because of better placements in this domain. The faculties are very interactive with the students and discuss all the doubts which the students have. they also give extra time if needed by any student. There is a 1:10 ratio of faculty and students. All the faculty members are highly qualified and experienced in their fields. they are also the ex-faculty in other reputed IITs as well. Mid-semester exams are about 2 months after the beginning of the semester and the end term is about 4 months after the semester begins. if a student is regular with his studies then it is quite easy for him to get good marks and CPI.
IIT Indore is among the highly sought after technical institutes.
Metallurgy is a sub branch of Mechanical Engineering. The College IIT Indore is great according to the placement statistics. IIT Indore had 90% placement in 2018-2019 with an average annual salary package of 18 lakhs per annum and the highest being 43 lakhs per annum. Recruiters at IIT Indore include companies like Tata Steel, JSW Steel, Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), VISA Steel, Tata Iron and Steel Company Limited (TISCO), etc.
IIT Bhubaneswar is just behind IIT Indore. It has seen 85% placements in 2019 with an average annual salary package of 15 lakhs per annum for undergraduates, marking an increase of 25% over the last year. The highest domestic package offered was worth 43 lakhs per annum.
IIT Bhubaneswar also has collaborations with many foreign universities like University of Warwick, University of Southampton, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, University of Western Ontario, University of New York, University of North Dakota USA, and McGill University.
To conclude, both institutes are equally good due to their placement percentage being somewhat similar. Both colleges have the same major recruiters such as COAL India, TATA Advanced Systems, TATA Steel Group, DRDO, Usha Martin, JCAP, etc.
IIT Bhubaneswar is renowned in the metallurgical engineering and material science department. It has well qualified and experienced teaching faculty. As IIT Kharagpur is the mentor institute of IIT Bhubaneswar, the coursework follows IIT Kharagpur’s curriculum. IIT Bhubaneswar is located in Odisha's mineral state and provides numerous opportunities for essential experience in fieldwork and job sites. According to 2019 placement highlights, 90% of students from metallurgical engineering and material science department got placed. The average CTC offered was around 11.4 LPA.
Now for IIT Indore, it has gained rapid popularity for its coding community and the quality of the computer science curriculum. This resulted in a step back at the development of other core branches, mainly metallurgical engineering. In 2019 the placement rate at IIT Indore was 99% with an average CTC of 16.06 LPA.
The fact is that there are not many students interested to enroll this field of engineering. This results in a lot of the students opting for electives/optional subjects like coding, data science, etc. and then get placed in a non-core job (not linked with metallurgical engineering).
Based on these above factors, Bhubaneswar is preferred than Indore as it is situated and connected to Steel and Mining Industry and hence provides more job opportunities.
